Legislative Advocacy

San ramon valley council of Ptas' Legislative Advocacy mission statement

Our goal is to influence, within PTA guidelines, federal, state and local policy makers to pass laws and grant funding which will provide for the improvement and betterment of our public schools in both curriculum and facilities.  In order to accomplish this goal, we will clarify legislative issues affecting our schools to the parent population and community at large, and encourage them to move to action.

Cal High Legislative Advocacy Report:

    • Distance Learning - 90% of California districts are fully remote.

    • LCAP (Learning Continuity Attendance Plan ) not to be confused with LCP which has been deferred by state mandate till later this year. LCAP key dates are adoption by 9/30. The next stakeholders meeting is 9/1 and if you would like to attend please let me know as these are public meetings.

      • LCAP is a school plan facilitated by the district (with district, teachers, parents and other stakeholders feedback to draft) to prevent disengagement among our students during distance learning. The plan will share how weekly records of engagement will be archived and track live instruction via google, zoom etc. The plan will also outline mental health and emotional well being and outreach including special education and all grade levels.

      • The District will present the plan during a school board meeting in September (one of the requirements of LCAP is a public hearing) as well as the final approved plan will be posted on the district website.

    • California State PTA supports:

      • SB 793 - Which is to prohibit sale of flavor nicotine products (exceptions premium cigars, and loose leaf pipe tobacco) This will be heard in appropriations by the assembly health committee.

      • California Proposition 15, Tax on commercial and industrial properties for Education and local government initiative
