President's Welcome Message

Welcome to the California High PTSA webpage! It is my honor to serve as your President of the Cal High PTSA this year. I am pleased to have a strong team of dedicated officers and committee chairs as well as the support of the wonderful staff and administration here at Cal High.

PTA at the high school level is very different from that at the elementary and middle school levels. Many of the programs historically run by PTA at those levels are taken over by the leadership students and other student groups at the high school. It’s great to see the kids take on these programs but for those of us who were used to being involved and being “in the know” on campus, it can feel like we’re out of the loop. One of the best ways to still feel connected is to get involved with the Cal High PTSA. We have volunteer opportunities throughout the year and the committees, including staff appreciation, Run for Education, Inclusion and Diversity, and registration, can always use a hand. We use signupgenius for most events when help is needed so watch for emails and articles in the Bear Facts with links to signups.

Another great way to stay connected is to attend the monthly PTSA meetings held on the second Monday of each month. We try to invite informative speakers who discuss topics of interest to our Cal High parents. Past topics have included cyber safety, Common Core State Standards, and bullying. We will continue to present information about Common Core State Standards and their implementation since this is the most significant change to education in many years.

One of the PTSA’s primary goals is to foster communication between school and home. To this end, we publish a weekly newsletter, The Bear Facts.  This once weekly email – usually sent on Sunday night or Monday morning - includes brief descriptions of what’s up at Cal High that week. It includes important events, activities and announcements with links to webpages or flyers with more detailed information should you want to learn more.  Flyers will be distributed through Peach Jar this year. To view a flyer, click on the Peach Jar icon on the Cal High home page. The Bear Facts is emailed through Constant Contact and you will have the ability to opt out should you decide you no longer wish to receive it.

Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions. If you have ideas for speakers or topics to be discussed, please let me know. Looking forward to a great year! Go Grizzlies!!!

About California High School PTSA

The California High School Parent Teacher Student Association was organized in 1983, and is a member of the SRV Council of PTAs and the 32nd District PTA.   We strive to support and speak on behalf of all children and youth in our school and in our community. We promote opportunities for parents to address the needs of high school students and we foster a positive partnership between parents, teachers, students and the community.
The goals of the California High School PTSA are:
  • foster communication and collaboration between home and school
  • support a welcoming and inclusive school community
  • encourage life-long learning and well-being for parents, students and staff
  • inform our parent community about legislation that benefits all children
The CHS PTSA is especially proud of the partnership we have developed with the staff.  We have partnered with school psychologist, Heather Cantero in bringing the principles of Positive Discipline to Cal High.   Bear Facts, the Cal High, weekly newsletter, is prepared and e-mailed to every family in the Cal High community by the PTSA. The PTSA will continue to keep parents informed about legislative issues that affect our children and schools.
We invite all California High School parents, students, and teachers to join and become involved in our PTSA. There are many opportunities to make a difference in our school and community!
