Audience: Counseling, Parents and Grade 12

Seniors-

Please input ALL colleges that you are applying to in your Naviance account. This includes DVC, Las Positas, Cal State Universities (CSU), UC's. All out of state, in state private schools, etc.

 

Note: DVC and Las Positas representatives will be here in the spring to talk about the registration process. Nothing to do right now but keep up your grades.

 

Don't forget about College Night on October 25th at MONTE VISTA HIGH SCHOOL starting at 6:30. Over 130 colleges and career-tech schools will be there. There will be a presentation by DVC and Las Positas talking about the Community College experience. There will also be a break out for athletes about college sports (NCAA).

 

Counselors will be having college application workshops starting next week. Make sure you are signed up for text messages so you can sign up if you need help or time to work on your applications.  Students only.

Sophomore Students,

We were not able to meet with you last year to introduce you to Family Connection by Naviance, a career and college research website. Our students use this website during their high school years and are introduced to the different facets of the program each year. We would like you to register now so that you can start exploring the site but we will be also meeting with all of you around December or January. It would make an easier time to get to know some of the features quicker if you were registered. The instructions to register are below. Please see your counselor if you are having any difficulties.

 

TASKS:  Registration

            * Follow these procedures to register:

  1. Go to Naviance / Family Connection link on California High website or the website address noted above.
  2. In ‘email’ section, type in student ID number
  3. In ‘password’ section type in 6 digit birthdate

(i.e. January 12, 2000 = 011200)

  1. On homepage click on ‘Manage my account’ in the upper right hand corner
  2. Under ‘Username’, type in an email address that you use frequently then click on ‘Update Username’. Do not use your school email.
  3. Under ‘Password’, first type in 6 digit birthdate again, and then type in new password twice.  Your new password must be at least 6 characters.  Click on ‘Update Password’.
  4. Write your email and password here:
    1. EMAIL: _______________________________
    2. PASSWORD:  _____________________
  5. Click on the ‘Home Tab’ (small orange tab) to get started.

Your parents will be getting a different code to help them register after we have met with all your class.

Students,

The last day to drop a class without penalty is September 22nd. If you choose to drop before that date, you will have to find a teacher to aide for, you will not be able to enter any other course.  The class you dropped will not show up on your transcript.

After September 22nd, teachers have the option to give you a No Mark or an F and either of these will go on your transcript. Again, if you drop after September 22nd, you will need to find a teacher to aide for.

Please see your counselors now if you are considering dropping a class so you can get help on knowing your options.

Seniors,

If you are applying to a college that requires a letter of recommendation and is due BEFORE OR ON DECEMBER 1ST, please come to the counseling office to sign up for an appointment with your counselor. This includes students that are applying Early Decision or Early Action.

 

Students who are applying to colleges with due dates AFTER DECEMBER 1st and need a letter of recommendation, you will sign up in the Counseling Office starting on October 2nd.

***(This does not apply to Mrs. Sampson's students-see email sent to those students).

 

These meetings are for the counselor and student only.

 

Seniors, if you have any questions about the college application process, we are here to help with this sometimes daunting task!

Students,

This year Naviance did not upload your emails into your Naviance accounts which they normally do. This does not allow us to email you important career and college information. Please follow these steps to update your account:

+Go into your Naviance account. Go to Cal High website and on the left under Quick Links, click on Naviance/Family Connection. Type in your email and password. If you can't remember your password you can tell it you forgot your password and then follow the directions.

+On the top right hand of your screen, click on "Manage my account".

+On the top left it says "account" and below "manage my profile", click on this. You will now come to your profile page that can be changed if information is incorrect.

+Go to the "email" and click on the pencil icon. Please type in an email that you normally use. Do not type in your Cal High email. +And then click on "Update".

*** If you have never set up a Naviance account and are new to our school, please see your counselor or Mr. Ehret in the Career Center so they can set you up.
