CONTRA COSTA TIMES NEWSPAPER AWARDS

Congratulations to The Californian newspaper staff for winning first place in Overall Excellence at the Dean Lesher Contra Costa Times Newspaper Awards. The class also took second for graphic presentation and earned 13 individual awards.

Other award winners included Patrice Mardo, Newspaper Association of America Scholastic Journalist Award; Emma Von Der Lieth, first place hard news writing; Emily Jones, first place lifestyle/feature writing; Amir Sagafi, first place sports photography; Haley LeDuc, second place news and sports photography; Ritika Iyer, second place in-depth reporting and third place hard news writing; Shalaka Gole, second place in-depth reporting; Jake Hirsohn, third place column writing; Christina Calderon, third place lifestyle/feature writing; and Samantha Cookson, third place news photography.
